Sources for research: the First World War, 1914-1918

The Archives has many sources of information about the first world war 1914. Some of our company records show how Australian companies contributed to the war effort. Many trade unions were active during the war in areas such as the conscription debate.

The ANU Archives collects and preserves the University's own archives, the Pacific Research Archives, the National AIDS Archive Collection and the Noel Butlin Archives Centre. These records are available for all researchers not just ANU staff and students.

Search results will appear in a new browser window. The database includes information about all deposits and series, the organisations and people who created them, and 40% of lists of items as at May 2014. The Help page gives more information about how to use the database.

Noel Butlin archives

The Noel Butlin Archives Centre (NBAC) collects business and labour records from Australian companies, trade unions, industry bodies and professional organisations.

University archives

The University Archives hold a range of material dating from the late 1920s relating to the history of The Australian National University.


Pacific archives

The Pacific Research Archives (PRA) at the Australian National University is the premier Australian centre for research and teaching resources on the Pacific.

The National AIDS Archive Collection (NAAC) documents the history of AIDS education and prevention and related concerns in all Australian states, territories and nationally.

Treasures of the ANU Archives

The Treasures of the ANU Archives exhibition will highlight historic documents, photographs, maps, and films from the ANU Archives extensive collection including the University's own archives, the Pacific Research Archives, the National AIDS Archive Collection and the Noel Butlin Archives Centre.
