The name 'ABLative' was derived from three sources:

  • 'A', 'B' and 'L' are the initials of part of our name - the Archives of Business and Labour;
  • the connotation which it has of protecting the core by burning away the periphery - an apt title for a newsletter published by an archives dedicated to preserving permanently valuable documents; and
  • the dictionary definition: 'a [grammatical] case which has amongst its functions the indication of place from which, time when, place in which, manner, means, instrument, agent etc'.
