Building Highlight - JG Crawford Building
The JG Crawford Building, located near Lennox Crossing and Old Canberra House, was designed in 2009 by Tanner Architects and comprises a three storey building with lecture rooms, theatres, tutorial rooms, offices, conference rooms and computer labs. The building is named in honour of Sir John Grenville (Jack) Crawford, a renowned economist, academic administrator and public servant who had a long career at the ANU, including serving as director of the Research School of Pacific Studies from 1960.
In 2013 an addition known as the GJ Yeend Wing was opened by Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Like the JG Crawford Building, the GJ Yeend Building was designed by Tanner Architects and constructed by Construction Control. The four level building includes three large lecture theatres, teaching spaces, seminar rooms, computer labs, staff common rooms and offices. The building is named in honour of Sir Geoffrey Yeend, a distinguished public servant who held a number of roles including first asssistant secretary in the Prime Minister's Department during the 1960s and 1970s.
The buildings house the Crawford School, Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZOG) and National Security College as well as a large number of organised research units such as the Australia-Japan Research Centre, Centre for Climate Economics and Policy, Social Policy Institute and East Asian Bureau of Economic Research.
