Building Highlight - Physics, Biology and Psychology Buildings
The Physics Building was designed by Eggleston, MacDonald and Secomb and completed in 1960 by SDG Kennedy and Bird. A second stage was completed in 1961 with the new wing being occupied by the Biology Department in September 1962. In 1968 work began on the Physics Lecture Theatre, which was completed in August 1969. Stage Three of the Physics precinct was completed in the mid-1970s.
In 1991 the Psychology and Biology Departments combined to form the School of Life Sciences, and in 1995 the fourth stage, the Physics Link Building, was completed. The Physics Link Building, designed by Wagdy Hanna & Associates, was constructed by GE Shaw and Associates in 1995. A few years later, ANU Facilities and Services designed the Gravity Wave Building, with the building opening in April 2000.
The Psychology Building was originally utilised by the Research School of Physics. Like the Physics Building, it had been another design by Eggleston, MacDonald and Secomb in 1960, and it was built concurrently with the Physics Building by SDG Kennedy and Bird.
