Building Highlight - Research School of Social Sciences Building

One of the most recent developments on the ANU Campus is the new Research School of Social Sciences (RSSS) Building, completed in 2020 by Hassell and Construction Contro.

The construction of a new centrally located building was necessitated by the fact that the School was previously spread across ten different buildings on campus, making multidisciplinary and collaborative work difficult. The new RSSS Building brings together all departments of the RSSS for the first time since 1964, with the building housing The School of Demography, Centre for Social Research and Methods, School of Sociology, School of Politics and International Relations, School of Philosophy, School of History, and the Centre for European Studies.

The recently completed building comprises 12,000m² of space, and includes staff offices, dedicated learning and public forum areas, seminar and lecture rooms and an auditorium. It is located on the site of the former Pauline Griffin Building (original ANU Union Building).
