Access & opening hours

Access

The archives are available to ANU staff, students and members of the public. You do not need an appointment to visit but it is essential that you first contact us to discuss your query or research topic.

The Reference Archivist will help you identify relevant records and assess whether they are open for access. Access to some records may be restricted or the permission of the owners of the material may needed before use. The Archives will seek permission to use these records on your behalf.

All researchers are required to sign an Access Agreement.

Opening hours

The Reading Room is open from 10am-4pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

Note that the Reading Room will be closed on the following days in 2024:

Request material in advance

Requested archives are delivered from our offsite repository at 2.30pm each day. Archives ordered after 12.30pm will be delivered the following afternoon.

Researching in the Archives Reading Room

The Archives Reading Room is reserved for users of archives and rare books and for quiet study.  Because the vast majority of our holdings are unique, rare, or extremely fragile, we ask users to help us preserve these materials by following the Reading Room rules.
