Art in Archives

Art in Archives highlights the variety and depth of artworks held within the Australian National University Archives, Noel Butlin Archives and Pacific Research Archives.

Archives are usually collected as a record of our lives and work and are not often thought of as having artistic value. The records highlighted in this exhibition make us think differently about the artistic value of archives and include works by notable photographers (including Max Dupain and Harold Cazneaux) and artists (including Elizabeth Durack, John Goodchild and S.T. Gill) as well as showcasing some of the more artistic records of Australian companies including Tooth and Company Ltd, The Australian Agricultural Company Ltd, Marcus Clark and Company, and Burns Philp and Company Ltd.

The exhibition includes a wide variety of material including trade union banners, department store catalogues, advertising material, posters, paintings, architectural drawings, sketches and photographs.
