Database news

1 June 2015

Over half of our item lists have now been entered in the Archives database. We have been able to use optical character recognition (OCR) software to good effect and then load large typed lists using the comma-separated value (CSV) template. The largest list entered this way so far is a Tooth and Company deposit of City and Country Managers' hotel files and Property Office files of over 10,000 items. Most of the item lists for the Australian Agricultural Company and the Peel River Land and Mineral Company deposits have also been entered.

We have successfully tested the harvesting of data from the Archives database to the National Library's Trove. This will mean that a search of Trove for a company, trade union or person whose records we hold will find our deposits and you will be able to click straight through to our database. We expect to implement this next month.
